The phenomenon was observed on October 7 in the City of Fosham, in the southern province of Canton. 5 days later (on October 12), another “Floating City” could be seen in the sky of Jiangxi Province.
There are many explanations for the mysterious skyline floating in the clouds over the Chinese Cities but none has a coherent explanation. Experts joke that the video is real. “It seems too perfect,” says Peggy LeMone, a Scientist at the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado.
If real, it would be called an “upper mirage,” meaning it’s an upward-projecting mirage, added Jill Coleman, an atmospheric scientist at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. It could be something known as fata morgana, “she says she,” which is a type of atmospheric mirage.
The phenomenon of Fata Morgana
Many people reported that in the UK coastal area there was a ship that seemed to float above the horizon line. Magic? Any hallucination? Bug in the Matrix? the answer: “It is a mere mirage,” says Science.
The phenomenon known as “Fata Morgana” or (Fairy Morgana in Latin) creates a mirage that occurs when the Sun heats the Atmosphere over the “Earth or Sea”, which creates a temperature gradient. And what about the clouds?

Coleman reviewed the weather conditions in Jiangxi and Foshan during the time the video was allegedly made. Were there any temperature changes during that time? And below the clouds, do the buildings of the City have a certain resemblance to what appears in the Sky? asked Coleman, who considered that the video could be real.
Fata morgana can be quite common in some regions of the world, as long as the conditions are right, LeMone notes.
